Panchakarma is one of the signature techniques of Ayurveda, the 5000 year old Indian science which emphasises the importance of living a healthy and positive life, and helps prevent diseases as well as cure them. Panchakarma is a detoxification of the whole body, resulting in total rejuvenation. It clears ama (toxins) out of your body and balances the doshas. It can be especially helpful for those suffering from chronic diseases where allopatic medicine has not been able to make the condition better. The word Panchakarma actually means “five treatments”, and these five therapeutic procedures are called Vamana, Virechan, Basti, Nasya and Rakta Mokshan (You can read about these treatments in detail here). Each person undergoing panchakarma will get a uniquely designed treatment based on these five procedures, depending on his or hers state of health, constitution, and special complaints. Ayurveda Panchakarma is a serious therapy, and should be approached with an idea to surrender to the procedures. The result depends on both the person undergoing the treatments as well as the people who are providing it; the work is done together by the patient and the doctor.
